Cayman Kind: A Summer to Remember

Before this trip, I only knew two Caymanians – both living in the UK. I’d heard whispers of offshore accounts, pristine beaches, and a trio of islands tucked into the western Caribbean Sea. But nothing prepared me for the soul-stirring magic of the Cayman Islands. Five days, two of the three islands, and countless conversations later, I left with more than memories – I left a piece of my heart behind.

Exploring by The Bluff in Cayman Brac

From the vibrant shores of Grand Cayman to the quiet charm of Cayman Brac, every moment felt like a masterclass in culture, kindness, and connection. Mr. Dwayne McFarlane welcomed me with stories of Brac’s agricultural roots, while Mr. George Walton shared the legacy of Temple Beth Shalom – a spiritual gem built from love, marble, and vision. These weren’t just interviews – they were windows into heritage, resilience, and community.

I dined like royalty: Ms. Piper’s Kitchen, Grape Tree Café, The Brasserie, and Catalina each served up flavors as rich as the stories behind them. I sipped literature-inspired cocktails at Library By The Sea and learned the art of swanky-making with Maya Grant, a rising mixology star whose energy is as vibrant as her creations.

The Cayman Collection Centre, guided by Tunisia Barnes, reminded me that heritage isn’t just preserved – it’s lived. From Aunt Julia’s music to the earthy tones of Caymanite jewelry, the island pulses with pride and artistry.

And the people? Jayden at The Marriott’s hotel reception, Dorreen in the hotel breakfast restaurant, Lee from Kenya working at Lobster Pot; each interaction was a reminder that hospitality here isn’t a job, it’s a way of life.

This wasn’t just another trip – it was transformation. I saw how agriculture is being reimagined, how youth are being trained to grow and sustain, and how art is everywhere. from galleries to gardens. Cayman kind isn’t just a slogan; it’s a spirit.

I came with curiosity and left with clarity. The Cayman Islands gave me stories, flavors, friendships, and a renewed sense of wonder. If this is what summer 2025 had to offer, I can only dream of what’s next.
